translators and interpreters are masters of language who can communicate in at least two different languages. they also know how to translate text, referring to dictionaries, lexicons, and similar materials to ensure the translation is correct.

the durham tech community spanish interpreter program features a public service track and a medical interpreting track. the first option allows the student to work in an educational, outreach, social justice, refugee resettlement, or faith-based setting in addition to being involved in legal interactions that aren’t set in a courtroom. the second option is more advanced in that the student will need to already have some training; this track covers medical terms, anatomy, and cultural and ethical issues.
